Tamarind Rice (Tamil Dish - Puliodharai)

ingredients:
1. 1 tbs chana dal
2. 7-8 curry leaves
3. 5-6 red chilies
4. 1/2 tbs Asafoetida
5. 1 tbs spn peanuts
6. 1/2 tbs coriander seeds
7. 1 tbs sesame seeds
8. 1/2 tbs mustard seeds

Puliodharai Paste:
3 tbs thick tamarind extract from 1/2 cup tamarind
1/2 tbs chili powder
samll piece of jaggery
1/2 tbs chana dal
1/2 tbs mustard seeds
1
tbs peanuts
4-5 curry leaves
1 tbs puliodharai powder
50ml oil

Method:
Step 1: Dry roast all the ingredients and grind to a powder.
Step 2: Heat oil and add peanuts, chana dal, mustard seeds.
Step 3: When they are fried, add curry leaves. Add the tamarind extract and 1/2 cup water. Cook on a low flame till it becomes slightly thick. Add jaggery and cook till it completely melts.
Step 4: Add chili powder, puliodharai powder, salt. Keep mixing till the paste thickens.
Store in air tight container.
Step 5: Finally, Heat a little oil and put the paste. Fry for a min till a nice aroma comes out. Now add the cooked rice, salt and mix well and serve hot or cool..!!
